Sponsor Licence Revocations on the Rise

With political pressure mounting to tighten immigration controls, Sponsor Licence compliance has become a key area of scrutiny. The Home Office has ramped up enforcement against employers who are perceived as non-compliant and exploiting the UK’s immigration system, with the latest figures revealing a dramatic rise in enforcement action. Between July 2024 and June 2025, 1,948 Sponsor Licences were revoked, more than double the 937 revocations recorded in the previous year. In addition, there has been a 300% increase in action taken against Sponsors following announced or unannounced investigations or compliance visits, highlighting how intense enforcement has become.

Commonly affected sectors such as adult social care, hospitality, retail, and construction have been cited for underpaying workers, abusing work visas, and not providing the roles they committed to.

Sponsorship policies are evolving fast, with recent changes, such as the ban on passing immigration fees to sponsored staff.

Common pitfalls include salaries and conditions that don’t match the Certificate of Sponsorship, right to work checks not being carried out thoroughly, poor record-keeping and vacancies not being genuine.

At CDS Mayfair, we help Sponsors safeguard their licences by taking preventative action: providing tailored compliance training, mock audits and policy reviews that strengthen Sponsors internally. With enforcement at record levels, proactive compliance is the best protection. We also assist in challenging suspensions and revocations within the compliance regime and through judicial reviews.
